Herman Smith, 85, of Louisville died Wednesday April 28, 2021 in Louisville Kentucky.
Visitation Wednesday May 5, 2021 10-11am W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home 3815 Newburg Road. Funeral to follow at 11am. Burial Evergreen Cemetery.

Herman Smith was born on Saturday, June 22, 1935, in Shannon, Mississippi to the late Elnora Sykes and Grover Smith.

On August 29, 1960, Herman was united in Holy Matrimony to Barbara Thompson Smith, and to this union their only child was born, Michael Edward Smith.

Herman retired from General Electric in 1996. Retirement only meant that he had more time to enjoy his hobbies of gardening, carpentry, making knives, and watching sports especially U of L. In his younger years he enjoyed lifting weights and staying fit. You could frequently find Herman in the kitchen, making his specialty, chicken & dumplings and other great dishes..

Herman was preceded in death by his sisters, Inez Marshall, Lula Mae Handley, Earlie Mae Mills, Larue Smith and brother, William Smith. On Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at the seasoned age of 85, Herman departed this life. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Smith; son, Michael Edward Smith; sister, Louise J. Campbell; brothers- in-law, Willie (Sherline), Charles Jr. (Sandy), Herman (Lola), Paul, and David Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
