Our dear Johnnie Mae Beavers Montgomery was born Tuesday, July 6th, 1937, in Lincoln, Alabama to the union of Nora Lee and Oliver Beavers. She was the first born of seven children. She attended Talladega Training School and attended Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Johnnie Mae accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior in the early 1950"s. She was united in marriage to Willie James Montgomery Sr. on July 17th, 1954. To this union five children were born.
Johnnie Mae loved to cook, her first job was a cook for the child development center that was housed at Community Missionary Baptist Church and later moved to various locations around the community. She was later employed as a cook for Jefferson County Public Schools serving at Newburg Elementary until her health retired her. She was everyone's favorite cook. She made cookies. sweet potato pies, cakes, if you asked, she would make it for you.
Her hobbies were cooking and caring for everyone's babies. She was one of the first fifty members of Community Missionary Baptist Church. She served as Nursery attendant, Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher. choir member and a dedicated Deaconess. She was a faithful member and regular attendee, until her health began to fail her.
Johnnie Mae touched numerous lives in the church and entire community with her welcoming spirit, and not just the babies, she adopted entire families. She was preceded in death by both parents Nora and Oliver Beavers; her husband, Willie James Montgomery Sr.; her daughter, Wilhemina Sullivan; her son, Willie James Montgomery Jr., her brother, Arlander Beavers and one sister, Lidia Beavers.
On Saturday, December 18, 2021, God called his servant, Johnnie Mae Beavers Montgomery from labor to reward. She leaves behind to cherish her legacy, two daughters Debra (Earl) Maddox, Freda (Lewis) Williams, one son Demetrius (Karen) Montgomery, twenty grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, seven great, great Grandchildren, two brothers Joseph (Josephine) Beavers, Augustus Beavers, to sisters, Audrey Beavers and Catherine Morgan, two Sister's-in-law Shirley Betts, Barbara Montgomery, one Brother-in-law Johnny Montgomery, her Goddaughter Ann Cross and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
