Laura Virginia Duncan Smith, 90, died Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Norton Suburban Hospital.

Visitation 12-1 Saturday, January 29, 2022 at W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home. Funeral to follow at 1pm.



Laura Virginia Duncan-Smith was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on August 11, 1931, to Frank and Katie Duncan. She was blessed with a total of seven siblings, Frank, Donald, Charles, Nathaniel, Mildred, and Jill. She gave her life to Jesus Christ at an early age.



Laura became the proud momma of seven children, Frances Smith, Shirley Hinkle, Anthony Duncan, Mark Smith, Robert Duncan, Dan Duncan, and Donald Smith. Schmicka Neal, whom she raised as her own child as well, was allowed to grow up with her big cousin Lamar Taylor and her little cousin Mark Smith, Jr. As a widower, she carried the burden of providing for her family, and she did this by working in the canteen at the Veteran Affairs Hospital until she retired in 1985.



Laura has a host of grandchildren along with great grandchildren and tons of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh and joke around with everyone. There were so many things she enjoyed doing and among them were cooking, listening to music, watching cowboy movies, and sitting on the porch enjoying a beautiful country breeze. Outside of her home, Laura found joy in visiting the thrift stores.



Laura was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons, Dan and Donald. On Thursday, January 20, 2022, Laura Virginia Duncan Smith departed this life. Laura was loved by many and will never be forgotten.
