About Shumake & Daughters

From the begining "our aim is to render dignified and sympathetic service to all whom we may have an opportunity to serve".  Proudly on April 4, 1982, the doors opened.  In 1990 we expanded the funeral home by adding an arrangement room.  And in 1996, the expansion including adding a second floor and entry foyer and office space.  We remain open to serve all families.   At present, W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home is the only “& daughters” establishment in the state.

To keep up with the growing number of services, Gayle Shumake Graham became a licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer in 1986; Greg Alan Graham beame a licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer in 1990; Kyle Edward Brooks became a licensed Funeral Director in 2006 and Sharon Shumake Adams became a licensed Funeral Director in 2007.

This family owned and operated full service funeral home prides itself on “SERVING” families.

FYI: Our firm name, “W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home” was chosen because the owners William T. & Doris H. Shumake had daughters and no sons.

Beginnings

In 1972, we partnered with Mrs. Martha Hughes and became the Hughes & Shumake Funeral Home located in the Parkland community.  After Director Doris Harbin Shumake graduated from the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science (which is now knows as Mid America College of Funeral Service)  in 1975 Shumake Funeral Home in the state of Kentucky was incorporated.

In 1975, to further expand our services to the public, we envisioned opening a funeral home in the Newburg area and put the plan in motion.

Facilities

The dream of husband and wife team Rev. William T. and Doris H. Shumake after looking around the area purchased the property at 3815 Newburg Road and the vision started becoming a reality.

Traditionally, funeral home establishments were all located in the downtown area. A very limited number of establishments were found in the suburbs.
