Alonzo Lee Simpson was born on Monday, February 13, 1967, the youngest of five children born to the union of Robert and Agatha Ashby Simpson. At an early age he accepted Christ as his savior and was baptized into the Walter Clements AME Zion Church. “Lonzo” as he was affectionately called, graduated from Seneca High School in Louisville, Kentucky. He also attended Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. He was an entrepreneur, producer, songwriter, a U of L Cardinal basketball fan, and a multi-talented gifted individual. Lonzo loved to cook and looked forward to family gatherings. On September 3, 2016, Alonzo married his Middle School Sweetheart Shelina Parr, the love of his life. Seeing the need for businesses in the Shelbyville area, together they opened the successful Chicken Champs Restaurant. They were blessed to work side-by-side until he became ill. In his goings and comings Lonzo could always be heard talking about the goodness of the Lord. He freely shared his story with those he came in contact with. On Monday, October 8, 2018, our beloved Alonzo Lee Simpson went to be with the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Shelina Simpson, son, Alonzo Dixon, stepdaughter, Chasidy Williams, mother, Agatha Stateman, father, Robert Simpson, siblings Robert Simpson, Jr.(Sonya), Gary Simpson (Bobbie), Bonita Slaughter, Karen Simpson, Michael Stateman, Da’Vonte Stateman, granddaughter, Ahli’Aunna Dixon, and a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephew, extended family and friends.
