Arthur William Coates Jr., 80, of Paducah, Kentucky passed away on June 21, 2016 in Louisville, Kentucky. Arthur William Coates was born in Paducah, Kentucky to Arthur Coates, Sr. and Lila Mae Taylor on February 4, 1936. He graduated Lincoln High School in Paducah, Kentucky and was an avid University of Louisville Cardinal fan. He married Barbara Ann Patterson on December 31, 1957 in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Coates was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the United States Marine Corp (USMC) for 20 years and retired in 1974. He graduated from Jefferson Community and Technical College with an Associate’s Degree in Electronics Technology. Then went on to obtain a degree in Marine maintenance and ship repair at the Louisville Technical Institute. Meanwhile, he worked as a Line Foreman for Ford Motor Company for 8 years before transitioning to a position at the Naval Ordnance Station (NOSL) in the Naval Gun Weapons Systems Division for 10 years. Arthur William Coates, Jr. is preceded in death by his Mother Lila Mae Taylor, and Father Arthur Coates Sr. and a special Aunt, Nurman Parham, and a cousin, who was like a brother Thomas J. Coates Sr., as well as a daughter Deborah Ann Coates. Coates is survived by a wife of 58 blessed years, Barbara Ann Coates, and four children: sons; Arthur William Coates III of Waldorf, MD and Ronald Anthony Coates of Lithonia, GA; and two daughters, Daphne Simone Coates of Washington, DC and Teresa Ann Coates Harris and son-in-law James H. L. Harris of Johnson City, TN, and sister-n-law Regina Sue George. Coates is also survived by grandchildren; Ronnetta LaNay Coates, Lawrenceville, GA, Antwane William Coates, Atlanta, GA, and Juwan Coates, Atlanta, Ga. One great-grandchild that he adored, Elise Janay Mayo along with cousins Mary Dickens Coates, Joan Coates Lewis (Alan) and Thomas Coates Jr., nephews Ricky Clements (Monica) and Robert George (Valerie) and special god children, Robert Campbell and Teresa Couts, along with loving extended family members and friends.
