Billye Larae Payne-Gibson was born Sunday, June 16, 1974, in Louisville, Kentucky. She was welcomed into this world by her mother and father, Nora Green and Billy Payne. Billye enjoyed most of her childhood in Berrytown, Kentucky, and was a proud member of Taylortown A. M. E. Zion Church where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was educated in the Jefferson County Public Schools System where she graduated from and became an alumnus of the Eastern High School Eagles. Afterwards, she furthered her education in the field of surgical technology where she had a very rewarding career so much so that her daughter was inspired to follow in her momma’s footsteps.

On June 13, 2009, Billye married the love of her life, Vernon L. Gibson, Jr., whom she cherished to the very end of her life. To this union they added Jakhari and Jamal along with Raven, the family was now complete. Billye loved being a mother. Life moved onward with its ups and downs and twists and turns until Sunday, June 18, 2023. It was two days after her 49th birthday, her Lord and Savior stopped by her home, described how she lived her life on this earth as “well done”, and was taken to her eternal home to rest in His precious arms.

Billye leaves behind to cherish and honor her memory: husband, Vernon Gibson Jr., three children, Raven Petty, Jakhari Gibson, and Jamal Gibson; mother, Nora Green; in-laws, Vernon Gibson, Sr., and Ruby Gibson; niece and nephew, Destiny and Andrew Payne; great-nephew, JaKahri Payne; and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, family, and friends.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and

humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

For my yoke is easy and my burden is light

Matthew 11:28-30

God makes no mistakes. We are all children of his grace.

May we follow in His footsteps until we reach our everlasting resting place.
