Brenda Ann Kirk Thomas, 69, of Louisville, transitioned on Friday, March 29, 2024 at Baptist Health.

Visitation 11-1 Saturday April 6, 2024 at Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church 5217 Gathright Drive. Funeral to follow at 1pm. Burial Petersburg Newburg Cemetery.

Brenda Ann Kirk Thomas was born October 31, 1954 in Louisville, Kentucky to proud parents Grady Ross and Irene Kirk. She was the third child born out of five children. She was educated in the Jefferson County Public School System, and attended Thomas Jefferson High School.

Brenda's Christian journey began at an early age, leading her, in later years, to render her God given voice to sing in choirs at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and later at Greater Faith Baptist Church.

Her enjoyment came from being around her children, family and friends. She always had a house full of children, and it didn’t matter who they were or where they came from. Her home was the "Safe Place" without the yellow safe place sign. She made sure that all the children went to church every Sunday, and attended Bible Study every Wednesday.

Brenda may not have possessed much in material things, but she made up for the lack of having materials things to share with others, with the abundance of love that she shared, especially with her family.

There was precious time spent with family and friends, but Brenda also made time for her personal relaxation by playing Bingo, the Lottery, and watching the Lifetime Channel.

Brenda enjoyed cooking, and loved to eat fried fish, but her signature homemade dishes were her Roast Beef with carrots and potatoes, her delicious finger-licking chicken with stuffing, Tasty Pasta Salad, and yummy Banana Pudding, that everyone looked forward to enjoying.

At age 54, Brenda lost her vision, but it did not stifle her independence. She was so used to doing things on her own, that she still held on to as much of her independence as she could, until her health began to decline, and she started dialysis treatments. Giving up was not an option for Brenda, and she continued to try to live a normal independent life. She would get upset when her eldest son would correct her on something, but when she got finished throwing her emotional temper tantrum, she knew that he always had her best interest at heart. Above all, don’t make her angry. Everyone was going to know it, because she loved to talk on the phone to her family and friends, and tell them the whole story.

Brenda was preceded in death by her mother, Irene Kirk; father, Grady Ross; brother, Jesse James Kirk; and grandson, Bryant Hawkins, Jr.

Sadly, on Friday, March 29, 2024, Brenda Ann Kirk Thomas, departed this earth. She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Demond Kirk, Tyrone Kirk, and Kimberly Kirk Bonner; brothers, Johnny Kirk and Brady Kirk; sisters, Annette Kirk Sidney, and Princilla Cook (Atlanta, GA); nine grandchildren; one great grandchild, Karter Kirk; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted children, and grandchildren
