Catherine “Cat” Mitchell was born to the late Bertha Easley and A.D. Young on Thursday December 8,1938, in Itta Bena, Mississippi. She attended the Leflore County Schools for her education. While still quite young, the family moved to Louisville, Kentucky, and soon afterwards, she accepted Jesus Christ into her life at an early age and became a member of Highland Park Baptist Church where Rev. R. L. Lyons was the pastor. Later, when she moved to another area of city, Catherine became a member of Star Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. R. L. Lyons and the current pastor, Dr. Herbert Johnson. Catherine was faithful member for more than 45 years and until her death.

She worked in the medical field as a certified nursing assistant for over 40 years and retired from King's Daughter and Sons Nursing Home. Cat, as she was called by many people, was a very warm, kindhearted, loving, caring, woman who never met a stranger. She had a contagious smile that could light up a room. She was very spontaneous and witty, with a sense of humor out of this world, and she was going to say what she wanted to say.

Catherine had a way of bringing people together. Often, she would cook for over two hundred people and would invite them to her House to Fellowship. She loved her church and church family. She always said, “Food brings people together.” What a cook she was! Catherine was best known for her dressing, greens, chili, cheese potatoes, and banana pudding, just to name a few. When people came to her home to visit, they were going to eat, and that was the final answer! Catherine “Cat” Mitchell was the glue that held the family together.

Catherine was granted her Angel Wings on Saturday, November 23, 2024, when God whispered in her ear and said, “Well done thy good and faithful servant.” She was surrounded by family and close friends during her final days and was preceded in death by her: husband, Spencer Mitchell; four daughters, Ernestine Banks, Leonia Banks, Ethel Banks and Rose Gant; and son-Rodney Tinsley.
