Christine Smith Monrew, 88, of Louisville died Tuesday, November 22, 2022.

Funeral Service Sunday, November 27, 2022 at 2:00pm at W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home 3815 Newburg Road. Burial Monday, November 28, 2022 at Lebanon National Cemetery in Lebanon, Kentucky.

Christine Smith Monrew was born in Prospect, Tennessee on December 24, 1933, to Alfred Smith and Dosala Madry Smith. She was one of their 6 children 5 girls and 1 boy. When her father obtained a job at the L&N building on 9th Street in Louisville, Kentucky, the family relocated to Louisville.

Her Christian journey began at an early age, and she gave her life to Christ. She was a member of The Church of The Lord Jesus Christ and the Apostolic Faith and remained in that faith until she departed this life.

She was a hard worker and was employed by Elizabeth Haynes for over 50 years. She learned how to adjust to life's challenges and found innovative ways to get the job done. When her vision began to fail, and she did not wish to use the chair lift, she learned how to go up and down the 28 flights of stairs holding on to the handrail and going down the stairs backwards. She truly was a creative woman who had an independent spirit.

Christine Monrew, and her husband Alphonso Monrew, were married on March 29,1956 at 3616 Dear Woodland in Louisville Kentucky. Their marriage lasted 51 years. They were not wealthy as far as today's standards, but they were rich in sharing love toward one another and others. They loved their children, Arnita and Charles. Anyone that came to their home, felt welcomed, comfortable, and felt the love.

On Tuesday, November 22, 2022, Christine Monrew at the tender age of 88, departed this life. She longed to be with her husband Alphonso Monrew who died on June 11, 2007. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Arnita Christine Booth, and Charles Allen Monrew; one sister, Mary Anderson; grandchildren and extended family.
