Cologne Eugene Williams was born Friday, January 27, 1956, in Louisville, Kentucky. He was the 2nd of four children born to the union of the late Rev. Cologne Eugene Gilkey Sr. and Shirley Gilkey.
He accepted the Lord as his personal Savior at the age of 26, at Von Spiegel Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorship of the late Pastor James E. Moore. Cologne attended Central High School.
He married Sylvia Moore in 1981, and to this union, four children were born.
Eugene served in the U.S Army as a Mechanic. During his time of service, he enjoyed working on aircraft engines in Apache helicopters and other vehicles. Eugene spent many years working as a Contractor and enjoyed partaking in home improvement projects. Eugene had a beautiful and brilliant mind; he loved coming up with ideas on how to make things better. He had a compassionate heart, being attentive and helping to find solutions to your problems. Eugene never met a stranger and loved talking about any and everything that sparked his interest, but thoroughly enjoyed talking about chemistry, physics and how things are made and exist in this world. Sometimes, you could hear him singing a song or humming a tone as he had an excellent voice, a talent he shared with only a select few. As loquacious and outgoing as Eugene was, he was a private individual, even up until his final days.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Cologne Eugene Gilkey Sr. and Shirley Gilkey; sister, Auset Sesheta (Cheryl); brothers, Michael Williams and Kenneth Cunningham
On Friday, September 15, 2023, God called Eugene home after 67 years. He leaves to cherish his memories, 4 children, Rochelle Williams, Nikesha Williams, Dr.Alisha Williams Wallace (Frank), and Jerrod Williams. Siblings: Carol Mosby, Sharon Cunningham, Michael Cunningham, and Andoria Walker; 6 granddaughters: Aniya, Anja, M'Kyiah, Grace, Moriah and Ava, and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
