Danita Louise Hathaway, 51, of Louisville transitioned on Saturday December 2, 2023.

Visitation 11-1 Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home 3815 Newburg Road. Funeral to follow at 1pm. Burial Green Meadows Cemetery.

Danita Louise Hathaway was born on June 26, 1972 in Louisville, Kentucky to Donna Marie Hathaway and Timothy Eugene Carr. She was the oldest of six children.

At an early age, Danita gave her life to Christ and began her Christian journey at Union Missionary Baptist Church. She was blessed with a melodious and beautiful voice, which afforded her the opportunity to use her God given voice to sing in the choir, and frequently be the lead singer. Danita was always recognized as having a caregiving spirit, and again used her spiritual blessings to serve others on the Nurse’s Guild.

Educated in the Jefferson County Public School System, Danita graduated from Eastern High School in 1991. She continued her educational endeavors and attended Eastern Kentucky University, later becoming a graduate from JCTC in 2005.

In Danita’s younger days, she enjoyed crocheting, baking her specialty Spice Cakes, keeping fit by Line Dancing, cheering on her

U of K Wildcats, and watching her favorite soap opera, The Young and the Restless.

Family was always important to Danita, and brought her an immense amount of joy. Her grandchildren brightened her life, and were the apples of her eyes. Throughout Danita’s life, she stressed the importance of family staying together and supporting one another. She was a strong advocate for the inclusion of family, especially during her favorite holidays, Christmas and Easter.

Danita’s career path led her to work for Louisville Metro Corrections as a Medical Assistant. Life’s challenges did not change her positive attitude and outlook of life, when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). She was determined to fight hard, never give up, and journey along the course of what life had to offer her. You could often hear her humming and snapping her fingers to her Gospel music and R&B, with her favorite artist being Boys to Men. This was her way of uplifting her spirits.

On Saturday, December 2, 2023, Danita Louise Hathaway, departed this life. She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Isaiah Hathaway (Michael), J’Meshia Smith-Manor (Robert); siblings, John Hathaway, Tamirra McElroy, Terry Hathaway, Ramon Carr, Leondra Hathaway, Niesha Hathaway– Wise, Chreshawn Carr; other relatives, extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donna Marie Hathaway and Timothy Eugene Carr and child, George Burrus, Jr.
