August 13, 1957 - December 21, 2025

David Wayne Montgomery, 68, of Louisville transitioned Sunday, December 21, 2025.

Visitation 10-12 Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Greater Salem Baptist Church 1009 W Chestnut. Funeral to follow at 12pm.

David Wayne Montgomery was born August 13, 1957, in Louisville, Kentucky to proud parents, Ocia Bryant Montgomery and Rudolph Montgomery.

At an early age, David began his Christian journey by giving his life to Christ at Greater Salem Baptist Church, where his mother served as the Minister of Music for 30 years.

David was a member of various singing groups around the city, as well as being an integral member of the Greater Salem Mass Choir. He also served as a Deacon at his church for many years. When David was attending a Black Leadership Conference, it was at that conference that he accepted his calling by the Lord at Ridgecrest, North Carolina.

David was educated in the Jefferson County Public Schools and was a 1975 graduate from Shawnee High School. He continued his educational goals and received his Associate Degree from Phoenix University, and later received his Bachelor's and Master Degrees in Theology from Campbellsville University.

Being a man of many values, he expressed his love for family, had steadfast faith, provided service to others, and had the whole armor of trust and honesty in his daily demeanor. Through David's 68 years on this earth, he was known for his sense of humor, and his undeniable devotion to Christ. He had many names that he wore with great pride - Brother, Husband, Father, Uncle, PawPaw and Minister (for he was truly a servant of God).

Sadly, and with heavy hearts, David Wayne Montgomery, transitioned peacefully on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from labor to reward. He lived a life characterized by his unwavering faith, unconditional love, and the knowledge and understanding in the power of prayer. He left his mark on everyone he met, and a legacy that will forever be remembered. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Mary A.; sister, Carol; five sons, Julian (Adrienne), Jason, Terrance, George "Pete" (Tammie), and Gregory (Elisha); nephew, Rudy Shelton; grandchildren, Jordyn "Skoo"; Breale, Jada, George, Malika, Journey; and a host of great grandchildren; extended family and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Ocia Bryant Montgomery and Rudolph Montgomery; and aunt, Georgia Powers.
