For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians Debra Ann Montgomery-Maddox, 68, of Louisville transitioned on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Norton Pallative Care Center.

Visitation 4-6 Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Community Missionary Baptist Church 4909 E. Indian Trail. Funeral 12 Noon Monday, March 27, 2023, at her church. Burial Louisville Cemetery.

Debra “Deb” Ann Montgomery-Maddox was born on February 9, 1955 in Lincoln, Alabama to the union of Willie James, Sr. and Johnnie Mae Beavers Montgomery. She was the oldest of five children. The family moved to Louisville in the mid 1950’s.

Debra accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Community Missionary Baptist Church. She sang in the choir growing up and in her adult life worked passionately and tirelessly in every activity of the Youth Ministry. She could also be found on various occasions as a member of the Kitchen Ministry serving faithfully until every pot and pan was washed and every crumb was swept. She will be missed!

After graduating from Seneca High School in 1973, Debra furthered her education by attending Jefferson Community College. Her work career included stints at Conco, the Census Bureau and the Community Action Agency. She was also employed at the U.S. Postal Service where she was a mail carrier. She retired from the post office after 30 years of service. She will be missed!

If you are reading this, you know Deb was not one to seek attention, take credit, accept accolades, accept too many hugs and kisses, or be on the front lines of any event that she organized. In an effort to honor the life that she lived, and to respect her way of not drawing attention to herself, this list was compiled as an attempt to describe the true Angel that she was. Please allow these words to conjure up your very own personal memories of Deb. She will be missed!

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” II Timothy 4:7-8
