Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home 3815 Newburg Road. Edna Mae Donan McAtee was born to the late Hazel Lee and William E. Donan on September 26th 1943 in Louisville Kentucky. Edna attended Louisville public schools and graduated from Male High School. She went on to attend the University of Louisville. She retired from the U.S. Government where she served as hearings secretary for Hearing and Appeals for disability cases heard before Judges. Edna confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at the First Virginia Avenue Baptist Church. She later joined the Watson Memorial Baptist Church when the family moved to the East End and helped her mother establish Watson as a community church. After the ending of her first marriage to the late George Jones, Edna united with Henry Ben McAtee June of 1991. Edna retired from the Government at the age of 49 and pursued her dream to be an entrepreneur. She opened up a jewelry shop in Buechel. She loved to make crafts, sew, sing and collect shoes and hats. She also developed a love for fishing and camping due to the influence of her husband Henry. One of her greatest memories is when Henry took her to her first Derby. That’s where she could REALLY show off her hat. Edna enjoyed life and always pushed forward even after discovering that she had Multiple Sclerosis. She and Henry later joined Evangel Life Center where she served on the prayer ministry and occasionally sang solo’s when requested. Even though she was confined to an electric wheel chair, Edna dressed to the tee with a beautiful dress and matching hat. She would make ties for Henry that included one that won the unique tie contest at Evangel. She loved to sew and made her own clothes including the wedding dress she wore when she married Henry. She never stopped sewing until her hands would no longer allow her to operate the sewing machine. Edna departed to be with her Heavenly Father early Thursday morning on January10th 2019. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband Henry Ben McAtee of 27 years, one step son Kevin L. McAtee, three brothers, Richard Donon, Henry Ford Jr (Jackie), Harold D.
