Eleanor Taylor Lewis was born on April 22, 1944, to the proud parents of Claude Taylor, Sr. and Edna Lee Spencer Taylor in Taylorsville, Kentucky on a farm. She was #6 of 12 children.
In her youth, Eleanor began her Christian journey when she gave her life to Christ at Second Baptist Church of Fairfield, Kentucky.
As a young adult she married the love of her life, Lindsay Lewis Sr. and to this union the family grew to include six children.
Amazingly, there were 2 sets of twins and two single births. With family in tow, they moved to Louisville following a brother’s recommendation for a better standard of life.
Eleanor was an excellent cook and a phenomenal baker. Her jam cakes, homemade donuts, and her yeast rolls were legendary. She was employed by Morrison Cafeteria as the lead salad prep person. She stayed on when Morrison Cafeteria sold out to Piccadilly until she retired.
She enjoyed tending to her gardens. Whether it was her strawberry and tomato garden or planting sunflowers, rose bushes, or elephant ears, everything she touched grew. She had a green thumb and found great joy in seeing things grow. Other hobbies included sewing, crocheting, embroidery, quilting, and canning vegetables and fruits for the winter. From her early farm life, Eleanor knew how to keep her family fed.
Family was always her greatest joy, and after her retirement, she loved family gatherings. Of course, you could not interrupt if she was watching her favorite TV shows, NCIS or, Law and Order. Eleanor did also require her privacy. Each one of the children had a key to one door; some had a screen door key, front door key, or a key to the back door, but none had a key to all the doors. In her own way, it was her way of making the children work together and call before you come!
Sadly, on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2024, Eleanor departed this life. She leaves a strong legacy of love to her children, Vanessa Lewis, Valorise Snordon (Dwight), William Lewis (Janet), Lindsay T. Lewis, Jr. (Cecelia), Michelle Young (Rodney); eight grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren plus one on the way and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edna and Claude Taylor, Sr; daughter, Joyce who died at birth; husband Lindsay Lewis, Sr and 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
