September 10, 1936 - November 26, 2024

Ella May Hinkle Winston, 88, of Louisville transitioned on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at her home.
Visitation 10-11 Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at Newburg Church of Christ 4700 E. Indian Trail. Funeral to follow at 11am. Burial Calvary Cemetery.

Ella May Hinkle Winston was born on Thursday, September 10, 1936 to proud parents, Ruth Mae Bohannon-Martin and Charles Ben Martin, in Pewee Valley, Kentucky. She was the second born of nine children in the family. Even though there were other siblings, the parents met the needs of all of the children. It was one big happy family, who experienced love among each other.

Ella attended Pewee Valley Elementary School for her formal education, and Lincoln Institute for her final years in high school. Growing up, Ella was reared in a family of Ministers, and was very active in their church. After relocating to Louisville, on June 6, 1979, Ella began her Christian journey at the Newburg Church of Christ. She gave her life to Christ under the leadership of Minister William Baker. She was a very dedicated and devoted member of the congregation, who occasionally taught Sunday School, and used her God given gift of teaching others about the goodness of Christ. Rarely did Ella miss Sunday worship service or Wednesday night Bible Study. She was a committed member of the church, who was consistent in her attendance to learn more about Christ.

Ella found enjoyment in gardening, which was relaxing to her; riding her bike for the exercise; shopping with her sister, Clarice for some more bonding time; and watching wrestling, especially Tojo Yamamoto, during the '60's. She was the "Queen" of baking, and was known for her infamous and delicious Caramel Cakes and gooey cookies. She was not selfish with her baked goodies, because she shared them with family and friends. Family and friends were always delighted to receive a care package of yummy, delightful homemade baked goodies from the kitchen of Mrs. Ella.

Family meant the world to Ella, but her most valuable quality was the unconditional love and care she showed everyone. She was such a kind, loving and giving person. She had an infectious laugh that could calm your nerves, make a positive out of a negative, and put you in a much better head space. As it is often said, "laughter is the best medicine", and Ella provided that medicine for you when you were in her company.

Sadly, on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Ella May Hinkle Winston, was called home to be with her Heavenly Father. She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Rodney Hinkle (Juanita) of Texas, Chris Hinkle (Lashonna) and Mary Goldsmith; nineteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; siblings, Frank Martin, Clarice Wright, Minnie Martin, Tony Martin; and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sheila Hinkle; beloved husband, Andrew Winston; and siblings, Charles Martin, Jr., Ernest Martin, Robert "Bob" Martin, and Jane Hines of Seattle, Washington.
