Frederick Howard Martin, Jr., was born Monday, October 10, 1960, beloved husband to Bettie Martin for over 39 years, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Tha son of Frederick Martin and Marie (Lopez) Kirkley-Bey.

Fred resided in Hartford, Connecticut most of his life before moving to Louisville, Kentucky in 2012. He recently retired from Arkema, Inc. (Trinseo) after 34 years as a machine operator.

Fred was an amazing cook who enjoyed making recipes from his Cape Verdean heritage. A huge UConn fan “Go Huskies”. He loved his Los Angeles Lakers, the Raiders and Mets. Fred loved Lincoln Navigators and drove one for over 23 years. Fred enjoyed good food. He definitely was a “Foodie”. He enjoyed watching Drive-in’s, Diner’s and Dives with Guy Fieri. Fred loved to travel in celebration of his wedding anniversaries and was planning a big for their 40th. He was comic relief to everyone who knew him. Fred was so funny he was Bettie’s Steve Harvey. He found immense joy in Family & Friends vacations to the Outer Banks, NC. He played Hockey, loved to read and listen to music. Most importantly he was a God-fearing man of resilient faith.

Fred was undoubtedly known for being a family man. He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife, Bettie Martin. He was an adored father to four daughters, Monika Dordoye (Matthew), Patrice Morris (Marsell), Renee Williams (Julius), and Etta Hardiman (Patrick); affectionately known as “Poppa Fred” to 13 grandchildren, Precious, Brian, Jr., Khyre, Brice, Makenzie, Darryl, Brandon, Madison, Khloe, Cali, Matthew, Jr., Julius, Jr. and Michael; parents, Frederick Martin, Sr. (Christine) and Marie Lopez Kirkley-Bey; mother-in-law, Etta Reynolds, who loved him dearly; siblings Lisa Martin, Kelly Kirkley-Bey, Shawna Woodberry (Torrey), Antoine Lombardo; brothers in law, Dennis Cole (Asuncion), Peter Reynolds (Tracy) Steven Reynolds; sisters-in-law, Denise Cole, Cheryl Reynolds; nephews, John Beverly, Connor Martin, and a special nephew, Brian Reynolds, Jr.; nieces, Tytianna, Tyanna, Tyah, Kammylla, Liahantt, and Torriana.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Catherine “Kiki” Lopez and Albert Lopez; paternal grandparents Bessie (Martin) Mays and Howard Martin; grandmother-in-law, Juanita Edwards; step-father William “Sugie” Kirkley-Bey; father-in-law Eddie Reynolds, Sr; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Cole, Eddie Reynolds, Jr., Derrick Reynolds, Sr., Brian Reynolds, Sr., and nephew, Caleb Martin, Sr..
