Gary Kirtland Trabue, 75, of Louisville, transitioned on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Louisville East Post Acute Care.
Visitation 5-8 pm Sunday, December 1, 2024 at W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home 3815 Newburg Road. Graveside service 1:30pm Monday December 2, 20240 at Kentucky Veteran Central 2501 N. Dixie Blvd Radcliff, KY.
Gary Kirtland Trabue was born on July 3, 1949 to the late Jennie M. Calvin and Lawrence B. Trabue. He was the third of eight children. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Joseph L. Calvin. Gary accepted Christ and was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church in January of 1958.
Educated in the Louisville Public School system, Gary after graduating from Male High School in 1967, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served four years. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam where he was injured. Due to that injury, Gary received a Purple Heart. After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, Gary lived in Houston, Texas and worked for Shell Oil Company. Longing to be close to family, Gary returned to Louisville and was employed by Johnson-Houston Transportation and Active
Transportation Company. Gary suffered a stroke and could no longer drive commercial vehicles; he moved in with family until his health deteriorated and was admitted to Louisville East Post Acute Nursing Home.
On Saturday, November 23, 2024, God saw you were getting tired and He put His arms around you and whispered, “Come to Me”.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Jennie M. and Joseph L. Calvin, two sisters, Sherrie and Cassandra and brother, Kevin.
Gary leaves to cherish his memory his four sisters, Shunita Miller, Joy Morris, Bridgette Saidy-Khan (Ormar) and Sharmette Frempong (Kofi); five nieces, Charise (Shawn) Gardner, Riettier Trabue, Jahmecia Morris, Lydia and Candance Frempong; five nephews, Jerron Rovers, Jory Morris, Kevin K. Trabue, Dana Trabue and Massaneh Saidy-Khan; three great nephews, one great niece and two great-great nieces and one great-great nephew,
