George Washington "Big G" Simpson, Sr., 72, transitioned on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Norton Womens and Childrens Hospital.

Visitation 10-12 Friday, February 3, 2023 at Newburg Church of Christ 4700 E. Indian Trail. Funeral to follow at 12. Burial Evergreen Cemetery.

George Washington Simpson, Sr. was born February 23, 1950 in Louisville, Kentucky, to proud parents Charles, Sr. and Martha Simpson. His birth order was the fifth child out of six children.

George’s belief in Christ started at a young age, and his belief continued until his final days when he was called “home”.

George, “Big G”, as he was affectionately called, was the product of the education he received in the Jefferson County Public Schools, and becoming a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. After graduating from high school, George enlisted into the United States Army to serve his country. Upon returning to Louisville, after his time in the military, he was employed at Ford Motor Company- Louisville Assembly Plant. He was a dedicated and loyal employee, who worked various jobs in the plant, which allowed him the opportunity to familiarize himself with other positions in the work place. George’s work experience expanded over the course of thirty years, until his retirement.

George married Linda Reid, and to this union there were four children, TaDasha, George, Jr., Kimberly and Alethea.

“Big G” loved the outside, and you would find him cutting grass for himself as well as for others. He also enjoyed his Sunday rides, spending quality time with his grandchildren, having fun joking around with family and friends, expanding his mind working Seek and Find books, and entertaining himself watching the Price Is Right on the television.

George was preceded in death by his father, Charles, Sr. (Pete); mother, Martha; brothers Denny and Charles (Junie); and sister, Marva.

On Saturday, January 28, 2023,George Washington Simpson, Sr. departed this life. He leaves to cherish his memory, yet mourning his passing, his faithful and loving wife, Linda Simpson; children, Michelle (Richard)Tomlin, Melanie (Junie) Woods, TaDasha Simpson, George, Jr. (Shalonda) Simpson, Kimberly (Keylen) Green, Alethea Simpson, Brian (Amber) Reed; siblings, Anna Firman, Janet (Charles)Simpson, Ronnie (Cookie) Simpson, grandchildren, Kevin Franklin, Jr., Anthony Dorsey III, Elashia, Elise, Efrem, Kennedi, Shyanne, LeAja, Kristianya, Kaylen, Jaeden, Jai, Jaxon, Rianna, Cameron, Jalen, Jalese, Jaren, Jacobi; great grandchildren, Trinity, Jaleah, Bryson, Jalen, Jr., Jadah; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and special friends.

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
