Gertrude Washington Chatman was born on November 7, 1946 in Louisville, Kentucky to James Patterson and Doris Washington. Her family grew up in the Newburg area where she attended Jefferson County Public Schools (Seneca) and began her Christian journey at Evangel Newburg Church.
Gertrude was also known as Trudy, Gert, Poochie and Granny! She was a special woman who made sure everybody was straight (in order). She worked hard to make sure the family's needs were met. Gert worked for Phillip Morris and retired after 28 years of service. At all times she was loving and kind almost to a fault. She was tough and a fighter protecting her family and all that she loved. She did not play about her kids, grandkids. She would let you know that you had to deal with her if you messed with any of them and that also included her husband. Married to Dwight Chatman for over 30 years, together their blended family was as one.

Family and friends were the center of her life. At family gatherings, Gertrude was the life of the party. She was a beautiful soul that will never be forgotten. Unexpectedly, on Saturday, May 13, 2023, God called her home. She fought to the end. Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Rita Hepkins, Pauline Beckham, Joyce Goodwin, and Louise Washington.

She is survived by her husband Dwight Chatman, children Tony Washington and Tasha Washington; siblings Frank, LA, Doris Washington, Mildred Brooks, Rosetta Sweeney, Rosa Patrick, Gwen Holman; 8 grandchildren, Briana Washington, Mya Beamus, Tony Washington, Jr., Makayla Price, Deylan Washington, Trevon Washington, Deiontey Branch and Deiondre Branch; daughter-in-law, Danyle Lynch, and a host of relatives and friends.
