Visitation 11-12 Friday, September 24, 2021 at Forest Tabernacle Baptist Church 4205 E. Indian Trail. Funeral to follow at 12. Burial Petersburg-Newburg Cemetery

Gloria Jean Wordlow Carr was born on June 17, 1950, to Roscoe Fraizer and Maymie Wordlow. She was their fourth child and was known as “Jeannie” in the Newburg area. Her spiritual foundation began at an early age when she accepted Jesus Christ into her heart and became a member of Cable Baptist Church where the late Rev. C. C. Calloway, Sr., was the pastor. Jeannie was one of the original members of the pastor’s choir. In 1965, she married Rev. Robert L. Carr, Jr. They were blessed to raise five children.

Jeannie enjoyed doing a variety of activities. She loved playing cards, listening to music, reading books, and watching TV game shows, soap operas, and old cowboy movies. Reading books and spending time with her friends and family was a pleasure too.

Sports was her passion, and especially the U of L Cardinals. There wasn’t a sport that she didn’t watch---football, golf, ice skating, tennis… you name it, and she’d watch it! Her love for sports was so great that some people may have thought she was the coach. She called plays like she was one of the coaches. Watching softball in Newburg Park was a pleasure for her also.

Jeannie was loved by so many, and one thing for sure, she was not shy about how she felt about others. She was a woman who took great pride in her appearance. Jeannie, at all times, was dressed to impress---wearing her shades and most of all, her signature dark maroon lipstick. Jeannie Carr was the life of the party and truly will be missed around the Newburg Community.

Jeannie was preceded in death by her father, Roscoe Frazier; brother, Douglas Wordlow; two great grandchildren, Christian and Janelle Sloan. She leaves behind to cherish her memories: three sons, Lamont Wordlow, Anthony (Elisa), Melvin (Terri) Carr; two daughters, Staci and Tuesday Carr; mother, Maymie Shelby; four sisters, Eva Clay, Vivian Puckett, Linda Kirkland, and Deborah Billups; five brothers, Donald, Clarence, Gary, Kenneth, and Darell Wordlow; seventeen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends.

There will never be another Jeannie Carr! FLY HIGH SWEETHEART, FLY HIGH
