James Vernon Page, 79, of Louisville died Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at Norton Hospital.

Visitation 11-1 Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Forest Tabernacle Baptist Church 4205 E. Indian Trail. Funeral to follow at 1pm.

James Vernon Page was born on Friday, February 5, 1943, the oldest of Cleaver and Roy Page’s ten children. He was born in Russellville, Kentucky, which is located in the western part of Kentucky. Page, as he was called, attended the Louisville Public Schools and graduated from Central High School in 1961. His Christian journey began when he gave his life to Christ and was baptized by Rev. L. C. Rhea at Mount Vernon Baptist Church.

After his marriage to Mattie Hunter, they were blessed with two sons, Barry and Michael. To support himself and family, for several years, he worked for Purolator and was also employed at the Bank of Louisville and UPS.

His greatest enjoyments came from family gatherings, especially family reunions and “The 8th of August” which is an annual special celebration day for African Americans who are located in the Western part of Kentucky because that is the date when that area learned that slavery had ended.

Whenever time was spent with Page, he would always pull-out his numerous collections of photo albums, filled with pictures of family and friends, to share and reminisce. In his earlier years, Page was also a member of the Screaming Eagles and owner of Page’s Nightclub.

James Vernon Page was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister (Barbara), and grandson (Barry L. Reed)

On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, James Vernon Page departed this life. He is survived by: sons, Barry (Rebecca) and Michael; two brothers, William Anthony and Roy Dwight; six sisters, Margaret (Rickie), Bettye, Bertha, Joanne, Wanda, and Andrea; three grandchildren, Reneka, Barry, and Raven; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
