Joseph Calvin Shaw, better known as "Uncle Joe", was born in Paducah, Kentucky on February 21, 1963 at Western Baptist Hospital. He was the eldest child born to proud parents, Mae Helen Shaw Blevins and William Howard Dunbar, Jr.
Joe attended several elementary schools in Paducah, before moving to Louisville, Kentucky in 1970, at the age of seven years old. When he was enrolled in Jefferson County Public Schools, he attended Noe Middle School and Jeffersontown High School. Being a student at Jeffersontown High School, he was enrolled in the ROTC Program, was on one of his high school's football teams, and was an honor roll student. Joe was a graduate in the Class of 1981 at Jeffersontown High School. Immediately following graduation, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps.
Joe was very gifted, and enjoyed doing anything that required the use of his hands. He loved to work on cars, from time to time hang televisions, and cook- with his specialty being his favorite barbeque. He was a real jack of all trades. Joe's personality and demeanor was that of a guy who was laid back, and who didn’t do much outside of family and friends.
Listening to music at its highest volume, while riding around in his pride and joy (his car) was true pleasure for Joe. He would go and sit places for hours in his car, just to be in his "zone", as he called it. He had a way with the ladies, and was a true ladies man. Playing a few games of Dominoes a day, is what kept the doctors away. You couldn't visit Joe at his house, be at a gathering, or sometimes, be in your own house, and not play the master dominoes player.
On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Joseph Calvin Shaw was called home. He leaves to cherish his memory, his three children, Anthony "Jovan" McClure, Rachelle Shaw, and Joseph Crenshaw; two brothers, Phillip and Frederick; three sisters, Tanya, Choomekia and Melissa; five grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and close cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Dunbar, Jr.; mother, Mae Helen Shaw Blevins; and sister, Latrina Blevins.
