Katherine Jane "Kitty" Spencer Tinsley, 72, of Louisville transitioned on Monday, April 28, 2025, surrounded by family at her home.

Visitation 1-3pm Sunday, May 4, 2025 at W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home 3815 Newburg Road. Funeral will follow at 3pm.

Katherine Jane Spencer Tinsley was born on August 26, 1952, in Taylorsville, Kentucky, to proud parents Anderson Spencer and Catherine Irvin Spencer. She was the oldest of their ten children.

At an early age, "Kitty", as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, worked jobs jointly with her mother to provide for her siblings. Later in life, she was blessed to obtain her GED. Kitty was employed in the Housekeeping Department for over thirty years. She was a hardworking and dedicated employee, who gave her all in any job she did. After many years in the Housekeeping Department, she eventually retired from Hampton Inn Hotel. She was also an employee at the airport.

Kitty dearly loved her family, especially her sisters, brothers, and children. When she was mobile and could easily navigate herself from place to place, she enjoyed living it up, and having a good time. She was a very direct spoken person. Don 't ask her anything unless you wanted the truth, because Kitty was going to give you the truth, whether you wanted to hear it or not.
Kitty could not be interrupted between the hours 1-5 P.M., because that was Soap Opera time. That's the time when she was glued to the TV watching her two favorite Soaps, "The Bold and the Beautiful" and "The Young and The Restless". This was pure entertainment for her.

Being confined to the house did not deter Kitty from trying her luck and attempting to find her "pot of gold" at the end of the rainbow. She didn’t mind asking anyone to pick up her lottery tickets or sometimes, scratch offs, for the midday and evening drawings.

Katherine was married to Clifford Edward Tinsley for 57 years. She was preceded in death by her husband; oldest daughter, Rhonda Tinsley; parents, Anderson and Catherine Spencer; three sisters, Veronica, Subrina, Valene; brother, Mike; and sister in-law, Stacey.

Sadly, on Monday, April 28, 2025, Katherine Jane Spencer Tinsley departed this life. She leaves to cherish her memories, three children, Gerald Wayne Tinsley, Kathy Raye Tinsley (Chiekh Diop), and Bernica Nico Tinsley; six grandchildren, Brian Taylor, Clifton Tinsley (Patrice), Johnathan Tinsley (Crystal), Johnica Crosby, Curtis Allen, and Catherine Ann Tinsley; three sisters, Beverly Tinsley (Larry), Genoria Jefferies, and Melissa Allen (Keith), three brothers, Roy Spencer, Ricky Spencer, and Larry Spencer; a special caregiver, Lianne Zaldvar; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
