Kevin Leroy Talbert Sr., 68 of Louisville, a devoted father, honorable serviceman, and bringer of laughter, passed away on August 31, 2026.

Visitation 5pm – 7pm Thursday September 10, 2026 at W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home 3815 Newburg Road. Memorial Service 3pm Friday, September 11, 2026 at the funeral home.

Kevin was born in New Albany, Indiana, on July 23, 1958. He was a longtime resident of Louisville, Kentucky. Kevin leaves behind a legacy defined by his unwavering dedication to his country, his boundless love for his family, and his remarkable ability to bring joy to those around him.

A man of deep commitment, Kevin served his country with pride and distinction in the Air National Guard Reserve for 23 years. Through his hard work and leadership, he achieved the esteemed rank of Master Sergeant. His military service was a testament to his character, demonstrating a life built on duty, honor, and resilience.

Beyond his distinguished career, Kevin’s greatest pride and joy in life was his family. He was a deeply loving and supportive father to his three children: Corey Talbert (49) and his wife Yahon, Kevin Talbert Jr. (44) and his wife Nicole, and Shaunte Talbert (42). His guidance, warmth, and love shaped their lives, and his spirit will continue to shine brightly through his cherished 7 grandchildren. He is survived by his siblings: Sherry Talbert, Carl Gaines Jr., Theodore Johnson, Lesa Gaines Crockett, and Carolyn Thompson. He is now reunited in peace with one of his grandchildren, Anthony Talbert-Russell, who preceded him in death.

Kevin also possessed a rare and beautiful gift: the ability to make people laugh. A true lover of comedy, he was not just a fan but a performer. He was a familiar and beloved presence at the Comedy Caravan, where he frequently took the stage to perform stand-up comedy sets. His quick wit, infectious energy, and natural talent for lighting up a room brought smiles to countless faces.

If there was anything Kevin loved more than making people laugh, it was his deep, unwavering devotion as a diehard fan of the University of Louisville Cardinals—a team he supported wholeheartedly through every win and loss. “L1C4!!”

Kevin Leroy Talbert Sr. will be remembered as a man who served his nation with honor, loved his family with all his heart, and left the world a much brighter, funnier place than he found it. He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, his fellow service members, and all who had the privilege of sharing a laugh with him.
