Mindell Louise Norfleet was born on Sunday, February 22, 1948, in Louisville, Kentucky at 533 South Clay Street. She was the fourth of six children (2 boys and 4 girls) raised by her proud parents, Hannah Louise Williams and Vernon Montgomery.

Educated in the Jefferson County Public School System, Mindell attended Booker T. Washington and Nicholas Finzer Elementary Schools, Eastern Junior High, and graduated from Central High School. After graduation, Mindell married the love of her life, Herbert Norfleet, and she became a United States Airforce bride, traveling across the country and abroad. Along the way, their family grew to include Terona, Therard, Terrence, Kevin and Kathy.

Mindell Louise Norfleet possessed a heart that radiated love to all those fortunate enough to be in her presence. She opened her arms and home to children from every neighborhood and church, nurturing them as if they were her very own.

Her life was a beautiful tapestry, woven with threads of compassion and service. As a talented seamstress, she crafted not just garments, but bonds of love within her community. Her caring touch extended as a Nurse, her grace as a model- even modeling for the renowned Lane Bryant; and her flair, as a fashionista, left an indelible mark. She had a hat collection to rival the colors of the rainbow, matching every seam of every dress, and every shade of the color wheel with her trademark style.

Mindell was a devoted member of the Mother Board in multiple churches, a guiding light as the leader of Girl Scout Troop 16, and a dedicated teacher in both the classroom and daycare centers.

Her unparalleled expertise in wedding coordination brought dreams to life, creating cherished memories for countless couples. Moreover, her culinary skills were as extraordinary as her other talents. She baked goodies with love for her cake sales and cooked from the soul, infusing every dish with warmth and flavor, that touched the hearts of all who tasted her creations.

Yet, above all, she was a child of the Lord, and her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She wore many hats, not just as a grandmother, sister, mother, cousin, aunt, and wife, but as a beacon of love and devotion. Her legacy of love and service, both in her actions and her kitchen, will forever be engraved in our hearts, a testament to a life well-lived.

On Thursday, October 19, 2023, at the tender age of 75, God called His child from labor to reward. Mindell Louise Norfleet leaves a strong legacy of love for her children Terona Huff (Arness), Therard Norfleet (Robbin), Terrence Norfleet (LaTonya), Kevin Robinson (Julia) and Kathy Taylor; siblings Harley Williams (Alberta), Verna Dula, and Yvonne Norton; aunt, Barbara Dickie; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and a tremendous number of extended family and friends.
