Narita Lee Williams Sutherland, 65, of Louisville transitioned on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at home.

Visitation 11-12 Friday, May 19, 2023 at North Central Church of Christ 101 N 35th Street. Memorial Service to follow at 12 noon.

Narita Lee Williams Sutherland was born to John W. Williams and Johnnie Mae Williams on Saturday, August 17, 1957, in Louisville, Kentucky. As she grew from an infant all the way to adulthood, one thing that was obvious to those around her was her love for reading. Her teachers were so impressed with her reading abilities even while she was a student at Southwick Elementary School. When it was time to go to junior high school, Narita was supposed to have gone to Duvall Junior High School, but her mother, Johnnie Mae, didn’t want her to go there, so she had her transferred to Meyzeek Junior High School. While she was a student there, Narita learned many trades that were useful to her in life.

By the time she was fourteen years old and a student at Central High School, Narita was learning various trades and receiving certificates because she never wanted to let anyone down. However, she still found time for tutoring, and she was, once again, right back at her elementary school, Southwick Elementary School, tutoring children who were having a hard time learning how to read.

Her love for reading, children, teaching and learning were special gifts that she was blessed to have. She had numerous certificates of recognition for all of her outstanding efforts. While she was still at Central, Narita went to Dietrich Vocational School to learn how to do hair. As an adult, she was an owner of a day care and was always caring for our little treasures.

She was baptized in 1992 by Bro. Alvin White. She had been attending the Church of Christ since she was six years old. Narita married Dwight Lewis Sutherland and to that union two of the most beautiful children were born, Dwight Lewis Sutherland, Jr., and Nicole La’Shae Sutherland. They were the joys of her life!

Rita had three brothers, two of whom preceded her in death, John W. Williams, Jr., and Elston Williams. On Saturday, May 13, 2023, Narita Lee Williams Sutherland departed this life. Still living are: her son, Dwight Sutherland and fiance’, Charlotta Bastian; daughter, Nicole Sutherland; ride or die brother/partner, Michael Williams; her beautiful Ma’Kayla and Da’Mondre; her Guy and Kalei; her Princess; an unsurmountable host of nephews and nieces; and a host of family and friends.

Don’t weep for me, I’m going where the chilly winds don’t blow. Let the Work I’ve done speak for me.
