Nicholas Leon Clay, 42, of Louisville, KY, passed away on March 1, 2022, in Louisville, KY.
The visitation will be 3:00-6:00 PM on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Shumake WT and Daughter, 3815 Newburg Road Louisville, KY. A second visitation will be 10:00-11:00 AM on Monday, March 7, 2022, at Sojourn Church Midtown, 1207 South Shelby St. Louisville, KY.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 7, 2022, at Sojourn Church Midtown, 12017 South Shelby St. Louisville, with Dr. Jamaal Williams, pastor of Sojourn Church Midtown, officiating.

Nicholas Leon Clay was born on February 11, 1980, to Matthew Minor and Lorida Clay in Woodbridge, Virginia.

“Nick” as he was fondly called by family and friends, graduated from Woodbridge High School and went on to play college basketball at Carson Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee, and Brown Mackey College in Salina, Kansas.

He was married to his wife Brandy Waldridge Clay for eight years. Nick worked as a contract worker for UPS.

Kind hearted, and friendly, Nick’s smile lit up any room he walked into, and he never met a stranger. He loved his son Desmond unconditionally. He left a legacy of helping kids in Shelby Park; he wanted them to succeed in all that they did.


Nicholas is preceded in death by his mother, Lorida Clay, and his grandfather James Harvey Sr.


On Tuesday, March 1, 2022, Nicholas Leon Clay at the tender age of 42, departed this life. He is survived by his wife Brandy Clay, his son Desmond Clay, his brother Akai Menson, his sister Kaila Menson and his father, Matthew Minor and host of extended family and friends.
