February 19, 1941 - January 9, 2025

Ola Mae Thornton Dickerson, 83, of Louisville transitioned on January 9, 2025 at home.

Visitation 11-1 Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Community Missionary Baptist Church 4909 E. Indian Trail. Funeral to follow at 1pm.

Ola Mae Thornton Dickerson was born on February 19, 1941 in Summerville, Kentucky to proud parents Alfonzo Thornton and Leona Ford Thornton. She was one of five children.

At an early age, Ola accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at Jacob Grove Church, in Summerville Kentucky. She loved music, and would often sing along when she heard her favorite songs.
Ola Mae attended Lincoln Institute in Simpsonville, Kentucky, and graduated in 1960. She completed an extended year after graduation, to attend a Business class. Not only did Ola receive an education at Lincoln Institute, but it was at Lincoln Institute that Ola Mae met the love of her life, Ernest Dickerson, Jr., and they were married in the Spring of 1962. To this union of thirty years, they were blessed to have two sons and one daughter.
For a few years, Ola was employed at the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant. Later in life, she found employment as a Door Greeter at WalMart, a job that she truly cherished.

Ola didn’t have work and no play, because she loved her Kentucky Wildcats, horse racing, Bingo, and hosting card games. The most enjoyment came when she was entertained by the Cowboy shows she watched, with Gun Smoke being her favorite.

Ola Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Alfonzo and Leona Thornton; and sisters, Corine Ford and Katie Lee.

Sadly, on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the age of 83, Ola Mae Thornton Dickerson, ascended to Heaven, to be with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memories, three children, Jeff, Ernest (Holly) and Jewell Dickerson; sisters, Mary Jane, Betty Louise; grandchildren, James Bullitt, Dominic Martin, Cordero Dickerson, Cortezz Dickerson, Courtney Dickerson, Korbyn Dickerson, Anthony Dickerson, Michael Dickerson; twelve great grandchildren; one great great grandchild, and a host of nephews, nieces, loved ones and friends.

Ollie will be deeply missed by all.
