Peggy Joyce King Cyrus, 91, of Louisville transitioned on Friday July 11, 2025.
Visitation 10-11 Friday, July 18, 2025 at Community Missionary Baptist Church 4909 E. Indian Trail. Funeral to follow at 11. Burial Resthaven Memorial Gardens 4400 Bardstown Road.
Peggy Joyce King Cyrus was born Thursday, July 20, 1933, in Louisville, Kentucky, to parents, Perry Nolan King and Geraldine V. Kelly King. She was the second child of their four children to be born and the only girl. Peggy grew up in the Russell neighborhood, and her stomping ground was between Walnut and Cedar Streets and 18th Street. She was educated in the Louisville Public Schools System which today is the Jefferson County Public Schools System.
As an employee, Peggy was a very hard and dedicated worker for the City of Louisville where for twenty-one years she was employed as a custodian before retiring. Retirement did not last long for her, and although she took advantage of additional job opportunities, her favorite employer was The Kids Corner, a daycare where she worked with kids. It was there that she met her "adopted daughter" Mary Todd (Ronnie) thirty-five years ago. In her spare time, Peggy loved listening to music, especially gospel music.
Peggy began her Christian journey at an early age and was baptized at Mt Vernon Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Ray and later became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. It was while she was member there that she met the love of her life, Modell Cyrus, and a courtship began. On March 18, 2006, the two were married, and Peggy moved her membership to Community Missionary Baptist Church to worship with her husband who served there as a deacon. While at Community and until her health failed, Peggy was an active member. She served as an usher, deaconess, and was a member of the We Care Ministry.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 17 years, Modell; brothers, George Nolan King, Sr., Leon Eugene King, and Joe Lewis King. On Friday, July 11, 2025, at the tender age of 91, Peggy Joyce King Cyrus transitioned to her heavenly home. She is survived by her "adopted daughter", Mary Todd (Ronnie) and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
