Robert Gregory Taylor was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on Sunday, June 17, 1945, to Wood Jr., and Gonzella (Moore) Taylor. Robert, the youngest of five children, was affectionately called “Butch” by his parents, and “Gregory” by his family and friends. Gregory accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and began his Christian journey at Forest Baptist Church. He was educated in the Jefferson County Public Schools System and graduated from Seneca High School in the class of 1964.
After graduation, he joined the United States Army and did his basic training at Ft. Hood, Texas. Gregory served in combat in the Vietnam War from January 24,1966, through November 28,1967. His platoon was deployed to the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) which separated North and South Korea. On the day Gregory returned from Vietnam, the family shed tears of joy and especially his dad.
Gregory was gainfully employed at General Electric Company, Ford Motor Company, and in later years, was employed in the food service industry. It was not all work and no play, because in his spare time, he enjoyed bike riding, watching Western movies, and sports of all kind. He was a sports enthusiast.
The angels in heaven descended upon Robert “Gregory” Taylor, age 79, and he peacefully passed away on August 22, 2024. Gregory was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wood III and Horace, Sr.; and sisters, Blanche Taylor Anderson Calloway and Gonzella Taylor Caudell.
