Roy James Moore, a humble man who was well respected, had a gentle spirit and lived according to God’s Word. He was a very spiritual, Christian man who was both independent and possessed lots of wisdom. James was born to proud parents, Charles S. and Mabell Moore on August 24, 1943, in Shelbyville, Kentucky, and was the youngest of their seven children.

At an early age he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at Elk Creek Missionary Baptist Church. In later years, he united with Community Missionary Baptist Church before becoming a member of Spirit of Peace Missionary Baptist. Church. While there, he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Finance Committee. Roy could be found at the church working daily repairing various things. He was also instrumental in organizing and starting the church library. After moving to Jeffersontown, Kentucky, he joined First Baptist of Jeffersontown where he faithfully attended Sunday school, worship services, and weekly bible study class.

Roy was a graduate of Lincoln Institute in Simpsonville, Kentucky, and went on to attend Jefferson Community College. He also served in the US Army for our country and after that, was employed at GE for 32 years before retiring at the age of 55. He was awarded various awards for his perfect attendance during his years of employment there.

After employment, Roy was continually an active man who enjoyed his grandchildren, reading the Holy Bible, watching sports, and traveling with family and friends. Besides all of that, he found time to take great pride in the upkeep of his lawn. He would often work on it late into the night. Piddling around in his shed was another favorite activity.

With his wife by his side, Roy James Moore’s earthly journey ended on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, in the Palliative Care Unit at Baptist Hospital East.
