Sharon Rose Bass Barker, 73, of Louisville transitioned on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Regency Center.
Visitation 4-6 Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home 3815 Newburg Road and 9-10 Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Lampkins Chapel CME Church 2738 Algonquin Parkway. Funeral to follow at 10am. Burial Kentucky Veteran Cemetery, Radcliff, Kentucky.

Sharon Rose Bass Barker was born on Monday, April 2, 1951 to her proud parents Leon Garvin and Edna Bass in Louisville, Kentucky. She was the oldest girl of their seven children.

Sharon began her Christian journey at a young age. She had a beautiful singing voice, and loved to share her God given talent by singing in the choir at Lampkin Chapel CME Church. She loved the Lord, her family, and friends.
Growing up in the Highland Park neighborhood, Sharon was a sports enthusiast, and enjoyed playing baseball and softball. She was a serious and competitive bowler. When you play against Sharon, you better bring your “A” game. She was also a U of L Cardinal fan.

Sharon was employed by General Electric for many years until her retirement. In her spare time, she found great joy in cooking delicious dishes, watching Lifetime movies, watching entertaining TV shows, and game shows such as Wheel of Fortune and Let’s Make a Deal.

Sharon was united in marriage to James Hayden Barker, and together they created a blended family including six children, Denise, Clarence, Lashawn, James, Melissa, Ravasha. In fact, she didn’t mind opening her home to others who needed a warm, loving, and inviting home environment. She was a giving and nurturing person who believed in sharing her all to many children, as well as young adults. Within the neighborhood, she was the block watch commander, always looking out for others.

A kind, thoughtful, caring and beautiful woman, Sharon was known for making you comfortable and easing your mind through her joking and humorous gestures. She maintained those characteristics until her last days.
On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, Sharon Rose Bass Barker, departed this life. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, James; children, Denise Smith, Clarence Smith, Jr., Lashawn Smith, James Ballard, Melissa Ballard and Ravasha Marion; siblings, Joann Sims and James Bass; and a host of grandchildren, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon Garvin and Edna Bass; siblings, Ernestine Bass, Laverne Bass, and Toby Bass.
