Virginia Lee Gardner Terry was born July 1, 1942, in Robertson County, Tennessee, to the late James H. and Millie Thomas Gardner. She accepted Christ at an early age in Turnersville, Tennessee. Virginia was affectionately called "Jenny" by family and friends and "Geegee" by her grandkids. She attended both Newburg and Seneca schools. Jenny was a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church and attended regularly until her health began to fail her.
On February 20,1960, Jenny married Harry W. Terry, and they were blessed to have four children one of whom passed in June of 2018. Virginia and Harry loved watching Wheel of Fortune, Young and the Restless, Price is Right, The Talk, and football games with Lamar Jackson and Teddy Bridgewater playing. She claimed to be a UK fan but still cheered louder for U of L whenever they played and would even engage in a small wager with her cousin, Jimmy.
Her work experience included a variety of jobs. She started out working in the domestic field followed by her time as a school bus driver for Jefferson County Public Schools, the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant, and finally, she worked at GE until she retired in 1998.
Virginia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved children and accepted her own children’s friends and their kids as her own. Conversations came easy for her, and because of that, she hardly knew any strangers. Jenny met her longtime “sister/friend” Eula Grandigo while living in the old "Newburg" Park Avenue (Golden Acres) neighborhood. They remained best friends until the end.
On Wednesday, November 24, 2021, Virginia Lee Terry departed this earthly life. Her parents, sisters, Geraldine Wright and Ella Mae Hines, and brothers, James Edward Gardner and Ronald Gardner preceded her in departing this earth.
She leaves to cherish her memory: a beloved husband, Harry; three children, Dale, Pamela and Ricky; nine grandkids; eleven great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Mattie Lusco; close cousin, Virginia "Ann" Pitts; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends including close friends Theresa Berry, Druscilla Irvine, and Ann Jacobs.
