William Anthony Toogood, also known as Tony or Tro, 62, of Louisville transitioned on October 8, 2026.

Visitation 1pm - 2pm Monday, October 12, 2026, at W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home 3815 Newburg Road. Funeral to follow at 2pm.

William Anthony Toogood was born on February 10, 1964, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Mary Alice Whittaker Toogood and John Henry Toogood. He was raised in a large and loving family with his sisters, Evelyn, Patricia, Dianna, and Joyce, and his brothers, Henry, Kenneth, Michael, David, Jonathan, and Leonard Ray.

William was educated in the Jefferson County School System and graduated from Moore High School. During their childhood, he and his brother Johnny spent many evenings playing darts and kickball, and the two shared a lifelong love of basketball. William was also a devoted fan of the University of Louisville Cardinals.

Throughout his life, William was affectionately known as “Mr. Fix-It.” Whether someone needed help with electrical work, plumbing, painting, or repairing a car or lawn mower, William—known throughout the community as Tony or Tro—was always the person they could depend on. There seemed to be little he could not fix.

Tro began his career as a baker and cook at several food establishments. He later joined Ford Motor Company, where he worked faithfully until his retirement. His love of cooking remained a treasured part of his life, and family and friends especially enjoyed his fried chicken, pinto beans, and hot water cornbread.

Above all, Tro cherished time with his children and family. He also enjoyed listening to hip-hop and music from the 1990s, and he loved gathering with friends to reminisce about the good times they had shared. Tro took pride in being well dressed, coordinating everything from his outfit and shoes to his hat, with sunglasses completing the look. He was always “fly.”

On Thursday, October 8, 2026, William Anthony Toogood departed this life. He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Shannon Philpot, Paula Philpot, Antonieo Philpot, William Anthony Toogood, Jr., and Anthony William Shirley; six grandchildren; his siblings, Evelyn, Patricia, Dianna, Joyce, Henry, Kenneth, Michael, David, and Jonathan; and his special friend, Pamela Philpot.
